Functional Group Leader – early screening unit

Place of work: Łódź

We are looking for a Functional Group Leader – managing screening laboratory with experience in conducting medium-throughput tests aimed at characterizing low molecular weight compounds.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Managing group of scientists/researchers (3-5) engaged in drug discovery projects
  • Principal role in the development and coordination of in vitro assays (enzymatic, binding and cellular) for drug screening (activity and in vitro safety) in projects at the discovery stage
  • Execution of experiments and data analysis as well as mentoring role for junior scientists
  • Collaboration with other functional groups in Biology department and with other teams engaged in Drug Discovery Projects (Medicinal Chemistry, DMPK)
  • Work collaboratively with other scientists in particular for the establishment of screening cascades in new projects
  • Evaluation of the in vitro safety of compounds in the Molecure’s laboratories and in cooperation with external Contract Research Organizations, building expertise in this area
  • Execute, troubleshoot and communicate tasks independently and effectively
  • Perform data analysis and write reports
  • Maintain extremely organized and accurate records

Requirements for the candidates

  • MSc in Biology, Molecular Biosciences, Biotechnology or related disciplines with a minimum of five years of experience in an industrial environment (preferably PhD in Biology, Molecular Biosciences, Molecular Cell Biology, Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, or related scientific disciplines with a minimum of two years of experience in an academic post-doc or industrial environment)
  • Strong experience in in vitro enzymatic and binding assays, cytotoxicity and proliferation assays, cell-based functional assays, reporter-gene assays is a must
  • Practical knowledge on in vitro safety assessment methods at the discovery stage is required
  • Practical experience with analysis software such GraphPad Prism and Excel is strongly preferred
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques – i.e. siRNA and Western blotting is a plus
  • Very strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize a substantial workload
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Ability to manage large amounts of data and to supervise less experienced scientists/research assistants
  • Willingness to learn and adopt new experimental techniques
